My Unique Approach to Education

“I find decreasing the ‘math anxiety’ of my students increases their learning abilities. It is important for me to get to know my students, so I may better help them learn mathematics.”

– Dr. Jackie Johnston

Jackie Johnston has 25 years of teaching experience in mathematics at the senior high, community college, and university levels. She currently serves as Department Chair of Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, and Computer Science at Northeast Texas Community College. She has worked for over 12 years as a registered nurse. Her current professional interests are innovative instructional strategies, technology in the classroom, integrating AI into her courses, distance learning, and mathematical applications in everyday life. She has a BS in nursing and mathematics from the University of Texas at Tyler, an MS degree in higher education teaching with a minor in mathematics, and an Ed.D in supervision, curriculum, and instruction from Texas A&M Commerce. She is married to her husband, Bill, with three children, Bill, Sarah, Jacob, and two very spoiled grandsons. Her hobbies include being involved with her children’s activities, reading, walking, working outside, and spending time with her family and friends.
