Cybersecurity Leadership and Management

PREREQUISITE:  None

Cybersecurity Leadership and Management focuses on the knowledge and skills required to manage and secure information systems across a variety of settings, including corporations, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations. The course integrates technical and managerial perspectives, emphasizing the alignment of cybersecurity with business strategy, innovation, ethics, leadership, and project management. Students will learn methods for securing information systems while also developing the leadership and management capabilities needed to oversee cybersecurity teams, initiatives, and projects.

 

UPON COMPLETION OF THE COURSE, THE STUDENT WILL BE COMPETENT IN:

  • Evaluating the alignment of cybersecurity strategies with organizational goals and business strategies to ensure effective integration across different organizational levels.
  • Applying practical risk management techniques to assess cybersecurity risks and implement appropriate methods for mitigating and treating those risks.
  • Analyzing the legal and ethical aspects of cybersecurity, including relevant laws, regulations, and compliance requirements, to ensure ethical and legal adherence in cybersecurity initiatives.
  • Developing a comprehensive cybersecurity program by designing strategies and managing cybersecurity teams and initiatives to meet organizational goals and address identified risks.
  • Comparing various cybersecurity management models and best practices and assessing their applicability and effectiveness in diverse organizational settings.
  • Designing contingency plans, disaster recovery strategies, and business continuity frameworks within the context of cybersecurity to ensure operational resilience during cyber incidents.
  • Synthesizing the knowledge of maintenance and protection mechanisms to ensure the long-term security of information systems through continuous monitoring and improvement.
  • Evaluating the role of cybersecurity leadership in driving organizational innovation, ensuring that cybersecurity initiatives align with broader business innovation strategies and contribute to the organization’s overall growth and competitive advantage.
  • Assessing the effectiveness of cybersecurity policies and procedures in mitigating organizational risks and recommending improvements to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Formulating a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy that integrates key elements like governance, risk management, and project management, while leading cross-functional teams to implement cybersecurity initiatives that support organizational objectives.
  • Utilizing Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning as it relates to operations and threat detection.


ACQUIRED SKILLS

  • Understand and apply cybersecurity governance frameworks.
  • Analyze network, cloud, and endpoint defensive architectures.
  • Perform intrusion detection and automation scripting.
  • Examine cyber threats using intelligence and red/blue methodologies.
  • Demonstrate ethical hacking fundamentals.
  • Conduct basic digital forensics investigations.
  • Explain how AI/ML supports SOC operations and automated threat detection.
