Program Highlights

The program meets the education requirements of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy necessary to register for the Certified Public Accountant examination. The 150-credit hour program requires students to complete a total of 45 hours of accounting courses in earning the BBA Accounting (CPA Track) and MBA Accounting.

Students who complete the Amberton University Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting (CPA Track) and Master of Business Administration in Accounting meet the education requirements for becoming a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Texas.

The Texas State Board of Public Accountancy provides clear guidelines and requirements to take the CPA exam and in applying for a new licensure. It is the sole responsibility of each student to satisfy each of the requirements of the State of Texas for licensure.

Career Impact

A graduate with a BBA/MBA in Accounting Dual Degree Program will be able to demonstrate the competencies of both the BBA in Accounting (CPA Track) and the MBA in Accounting, in addition to satisfying the academic requirements for becoming a CPA in the State of Texas.

The dual degree program can be completed through a combination of on-campus and on-line courses or 100% online.

The BBA/MBA Accounting Dual Degree Program is an accelerated program that prepares graduates for careers as professional accountants.  Successful graduates will demonstrate competence in accounting, analytics, business, ethics, and management.  The program meets the education requirements of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy necessary to register for the Certified Public Accountant examination.  The 150-credit hour program requires students to complete a total of 45 hours of accounting courses in earning the BBA Accounting (CPA Track) and MBA Accounting.  The dual degree program can be completed through a combination of on-campus and online courses or 100% online.

Amberton offers an accelerated MBA Accounting option for those completing the BBA Accounting degree (public accounting track) through Amberton. This accelerated MBA option allows a student to complete up to six graduate credits required in the MBA Accounting program as part of their BBA Accounting program. Taking advantage of this opportunity reduces the MBA Accounting degree to 30 additional credits beyond the BBA Accounting degree. This option is available 100% online.

This program offers the opportunity for those seeking the CPA certification to complete a total of 45 hours of accounting coursework and also meet the 150-hour pathway to licensure. (See the TXBPA or other state board of accountancy to confirm your licensure options.)

 

The minimum requirements for a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting (CPA Track) are:

  • 33 semester hours must be completed at Amberton University.
  • 42 semester hours must be at the 3000/4000 level, 27 of which must be completed at Amberton University and applicable to the degree.
  • 120 semester hours for a degree.
  • A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.00 is required.

The minimum requirements for a Master of Business Administration in Accounting are:

  • 24 semester hours applicable to the degree must be completed at Amberton University
  • 36 semester hours to complete the program, excluding prerequisites
  • A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 is required

* FIN5250 and MGT5203 are courses completed in the Dual Degree B.B.A. and M.B.A. Accounting program and do not need to be repeated by the student.
